What are the characteristics of good quality technical/scientific documents?
How can we prepare documents that please our audience?
Are there general rules that might help us effectively write any type of technical/scientific documents?

This course will answer those questions and more, putting you on the right path to become a skilled and successful writer. Through exercises and discussion, you will learn fundamental techniques that will allow you to prepare high quality documents.

Module 1

  • What is the goal of a technical/scientific document
  • How different types of audiences affect the document style and content
  • What makes a good document – general concepts
  • How to develop a coherent document: the problem statement approach

Module 2

  • Tips on how to create high-quality documents (i.e. exhaustive, clear, concise, well structured, navigable and visually pleasing documents)

Module 3

  • Stylistic and grammatical techniques to improve your writing
  • Round up and final questions

Professional junior writers, clinical affairs, medical science liaison, clinical research associates, regulatory affairs, anyone planning to move into the technical/medical/scientific writing field.

Participant experience
Participants need to have little or no experience in technical/scientific writing.

Fiona Dunlevy

Consultant in Medical Writing and Scientific Communication at Axcience

Fiona has been a medical writer since 2010, following a PhD and postdoc in airway inflammation. She writes journal articles and regulatory documents about pharmaceuticals and medical devices, and also writes content for medical communications and popular science outlets. Her clients come from pharma, academia and non-profits across many different therapeutic and scientific areas. Fiona also works in a European clinical trial network where she is involved in quality management and training.

This online training is divided in 3 modules:
